Mind, Body & Spirit

Why Love and Forgiveness Are Essential for Wellness

As I’ve grown through my own healing journey, I have come to understand more deeply why the Bible places such importance on love and forgiveness.

Jesus said that the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and the second is like it: to love your neighbor as yourself. For many years, I understood these words intellectually, but now I am beginning to understand them through experience.

Love is not simply an emotion. It is healing. It is freedom. It is the foundation upon which a healthy and peaceful life is built.

I also understand why we are called to forgive again and again. Forgiveness is one of the greatest struggles for most of us. We all experience hurt, disappointment, betrayal, rejection, and loss. Holding on to those wounds can feel easier than releasing them, yet the longer we carry them, the heavier they become.

Through my own experiences, I have learned that forgiveness is not about excusing what happened. It is about freeing ourselves from the burden of carrying it. Every time we choose forgiveness, we create more room for peace, love, and healing to enter our lives.

Perhaps this is why these teachings are at the very heart of the Gospel. Because without love and forgiveness, true healing—whether physical, mental, or spiritual—becomes much harder to achieve.
